At Meta, we develop products that will enable creators to gain exposure, expand their communities, and make a living. We're inviting creators from all over the world to join us in Creator Week 2022 as we help them advance their careers, connect with peers, and forge a shared future. New opportunities for creators to make money on Facebook and Instagram are also being announced.
Digital collectibles updates
Soon, Instagram users will be able to create their own digital collectibles and sell them to followers both inside and outside of the app. From creation (beginning on the Polygon blockchain), to showcasing, to selling, they will have an end-to-end toolkit. By purchasing digital collectibles made by their favourite creators directly from Instagram, users can support them easily. With the intention of soon expanding to more nations, we are testing these new features with a select group of creators in the US.
We're also adding support for the Solana blockchain and Phantom wallet to the list of digital collectibles that you can display on Instagram, in addition to the blockchains and wallets that we already support. Last but not least, details such as collection name and descriptions will now be accessible on Instagram for a select number of collections whose metadata has been enhanced by OpenSea.
Support from the Public for Creators
Through our apps, we're making it simpler for users to express their appreciation for their favourite creators, strengthening their community and fostering the growth of their businesses.
Followings on Instagram
We're extending eligibility for subscriptions on Instagram to all U.S.-based creators who qualify so that more creators can generate predictable income and establish closer relationships with their most devoted fans. We've observed creators use subscriptions to get even closer to their most devoted fans since the service launched earlier this year. Examples include Cole Sprouse (@colesprouse), Alan Chow (@alanchikinchow), and Skai Jackson (@skaijackson).
Gifts and Stars
We are facilitating user discovery of Stars on Facebook by enabling Stars by default on all publicly available creator content, including Reels. As a result, there are more places on Facebook where users can learn about and utilise Stars. We are conducting testing with a small group of creators worldwide.
We're introducing new features for creators already using Stars to make it simpler to collect Stars and communicate with Star senders:
- Stars Party comes to Reels. If the creator succeeds in their challenge, the Stars community will celebrate with a Stars Party.
- Testing a new set of digital presents designed for particular content. You can send a gift with a dog theme to your favourite pet creator, for instance, if you're watching a puppy reel from them.
- Providing creators with additional tools to interact with Stars senders, such as the inclusion of a filter in Comments Manager that collects all of a creator's Stars comments in one location. Creators will be able to respond to several comments at once on this surface.
- Adding Stars to publicly accessible, non-video content like photos and text posts.
Starting with Reels, we're introducing gifts on Instagram to give creators a new way to get paid by fans who adore their Reels. Fans can send gifts on Reels by purchasing Stars within Instagram to show support for their favourite creators. We're piloting this with a select group of US creators right now, and we intend to soon include more creators.
Professional Facebook Profile Mode
We're introducing professional mode for Facebook profiles, a brand-new setting that enables creators everywhere to establish a public profile while still enjoying a private Facebook experience. A set of tools and opportunities are available in professional mode for creators and anyone else who wants to start creating, allowing them to start building a global community from their personal profile. With professional mode, creators can be qualified to receive payment through Stars, in-stream advertisements, Facebook Reels, and Reels Play. Access to content and audience analytics, educational resources, and more will be available to them.
